3 Myths About Hair Vitamins That Aren't Really True

Bottle of vitamins

Have you ever wondered, "why do people love hair vitamins so much?"

It is because hair vitamins are a great way to support you along your hair journey.

However, it’s important to get real about what hair vitamins can and cannot do for you.

There are a lot of myths and misinformation about hair vitamins. Sometimes it it difficult to know what is true and what is not.

In this article, I am going to help you debunk 3 myths about hair vitamins so that you know the difference between fact and fiction. What do you have to say about this . . .

Myth #1: Your Hair Will Grow Instantly (Waist Length)

Having proper expectations is an important part of your hair journey.

And that is the case when it comes to what you expect from hair vitamins.

Here's the truth: You’re not going to be bald, take two hair gummies at night, and wake up with hair like Rapunzel.

It's just not going to happen.

For some reason, people think that hair vitamins (or any hair care product or supplement for that matter) will cause their hair to grow instantly. In fact, your hair only grows about 1/2 inch per month.

Hair vitamins provide your body with the some of the needed nutrients that help support healthy cell and hair growth such as biotin, vitamin A, B, B12 and others. They key is to use a quality hair vitamin as part of your overall hair care regimen with sleep, water, proper diet and nutrition, and effective products.

Myth #2: Hair Vitamins Don’t Work

The question I get asked all the time about hair vitamins is:  "do hair vitamins/ hair gummies really work?"

My response is, yes , but . . .

Like all quality hair care products, hair vitamins work. But here is the thing, hair vitamins require persistence, consistency, and patience.

The truth is that it can typically takes 90 days to start seeing results with hair vitamins because your body needs time to adjust to the nutrients.

People experience some of the best results after taking hair vitamins for several months. This may seem seem a long time but it really is not because reaching your hair goals is so worth it.

One survey showed that 81% of women feels most confident when their hair looks great.

So when you think about feeling confident and loving what you see when you look in the mirror, a few months is not too long at all.

Myth #3: Hair Vitamins Will Cause Acne, Breakouts & Hair to Grow All Over Your Body

Acne and breakouts can be the worst.

The reality is that it is possible that someone can experience breakouts while taking hair vitamins.

However,  those who typically have breakouts with taking biotin experience them when they take over 5,000 mcg of biotin per day.

Yet, there is still little evidence to support that biotin is the sole cause of breakouts.

In fact, research suggests that hormones, age, stress, and lifestyle play a much bigger role in causing acne and breakouts than hair vitamins.

However, in cases where people experienced acne or breakout, it cleared up after their body got used to the new supplement (i.e., hair vitamin).

Another thing is: people say I don’t want to take hair vitamins because they will cause hair to grow all over my body.

Some women think that taking hair vitamins will cause their mustache or sideburns to start growing more noticeably.

The reality is that hair vitamins don’t cause hair to grow all over your body. This is because hair vitamins target hair follicles on the head.

Besides, the hair on your head and the hair on your body(androgenic hair) grows in different ways. For the hair on your body, the resting phase is longer and the growing phase is shorter. It is the opposite for scalp hair.

Typically, scalp hair is in the growing phase for 2-7 years while body hair is in the growing phase for a few months.

One Last Thing . . .

It is important to educate yourself so that you know what is fact vs. fiction. Again, always I want to remind you that I am not a doctor and that you should check with your doctor or health care professional before taking any new supplements.
