VoiceOfHair is helping you love what you see when you look in the mirror.™
I love the beginning of the year because it offers an opportunity to restart, realign, and do things differently. And you can do something different with your hair, if you take the right actions.
The right action at the start of the year is not always resolutions. I say this because nearly 80% of resolutions that are started on January 1st unfortunately end by February.
There’s a better way.
That’s why I want to share with you 5 Ways to Have HealthyHair in 2024 without new year’s resolution.
Do you want to know what they are?
Let’s face it.
It can be difficult to work towards big goals for an entire year. So instead try selecting a word for your hair this year.
For example, the word for this year for your hair might be: care. Choosing a word for your hair this year will help you set intentions, focus, and hold yourself accountable (with grace of course).
Once you decide on a word for your hair write it down on some sticky notes and post them in places that you will see around your home.
So, what will be the word for your hair this year?
It is easy to come into the new year without having done a lot of reflection on the prior year. Trust me, I am guilty of doing this.
However, we all need time to reflect on what went well, what was difficult, but also what were some unexpected blessings.
To reflect on your hair journey last year, you might ask yourself:
I actually stopped focusing on yearly goals and personally break my goals down into 12 week chucks. I also do this for my hair.
The way this works is that each week, set some specific things you want to accomplish with your hair. For example, you might want to massage your scalp every morning for 10 minutes. Then schedule time every day to work towards those outcomes. You should try it.
But here’s the thing: I typically only set SMART goals. These goals are specific, measurable, aspirational, realistic and time bound.
Take 5 minutes or so to create 1-3 SMART goals for your hair.
No person is an island. We all need people, especially the right people.
There is an African proverb that says, "if you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together."
And if you want to reach your hair and other goals, you can’t keep going at it alone. I know COVID-19 has made it hard to be in person, but where are the communities of people who are like minded and want healthy hair just like you, even if it is virtual or a Facebook group?
When you find and connect with people who are going in the same direction, it can be a godsend because you realize that you’re not alone. Besides, you can hold each other accountable (of course with grace). This way someone can help you when you’re down and vice versa.
With so much loss, pain, hurt, and uncertainty over the last 20 plus months it has been a lot to handle.
However, despite everything that is going on, I always try to look for bright spots.
So, throughout your week, write down things that you’re grateful for. These can be big or small things. For example, it could be you finally found hair products that actually work for you. Whatever it is, write it down after it happens, put these things in a jar.
Then, at the end of each week read the cards in your gratitude jar and on December 31st take 1 hour to read through each card and allow yourself to feel the emotion of the gratitude that you experienced all year.
I hope these ideas will help you make this your best year yet.
